Schneider Electric BMEXBP1200 is a 12‑slot Ethernet backplane for the Modicon X80 range. It is used as the central mounting and power distribution chassis for automation systems based on Modicon M340 and M580 Programmable Automation Controllers (PAC). The backplane distributes the 3.3 V DC and 24 V DC power from a BMXCPS power supply to all installed modules and embeds an Ethernet switch to provide high‑speed data exchange between modules that use the Ethernet backplane bus.

Applications:

  • Medium to large process and factory automation systems

  • Central rack for Modicon M580/M340 PAC with CPU, power supply, I/O, and communication modules

  • Remote I/O (RIO) drop main rack with BMECRA31210 (EIO) adapter module

  • Mixed system configurations using both Ethernet‑X Bus and X‑Bus‑only modules

Core Specifications:

  • Number of slots: 12 total (8 slots with Ethernet‑X Bus connectors for mixed modules, 4 X‑Bus‑only slots)

  • Product compatibility: I/O modules, specific application modules, BMXCPS power supplies, BMX processors, BME processors

  • Embedded network: Ethernet switch for select backplane slots (not all slots have Ethernet connectivity)

  • Electrical connection: 1× XBE connector for expansion module

Advanced Specifications:

  • Current consumption: 164 mA at 24 V DC, 86 mA at 3.3 V DC

  • Power consumption: 3.9 W (24 V DC), 283 mW (3.3 V DC)

  • Fixing mode: 4× M6 screws (plate mounting) or 4× screws (4.32 mm to 6.35 mm) for panel mounting

  • MTBF: 1,500,000 hours

  • Protection rating: IP20

  • Net weight: 1.377 kg

  • Operating temperature: 0 °C to +60 °C, relative humidity 5 % to 95 % (without condensation)

Standards Compliance:
EN 61131‑2, EN 61000‑6‑4, EN 61000‑6‑2, EN 61010‑2‑201

System Integration:

  • Installed as the main chassis in the automation cabinet and must be combined with a BMXCPS power supply module for voltage distribution.

  • For a remote I/O drop: main rack is BMEXBP••00 or BMXXBP••0, holds adapter module (BMXCRA31200 or BMECRA31210), power supply, and I/O modules.

  • Extended rack only uses BMXXBP••0 backplane (no Ethernet).

  • If bus extender cables (BMXXBC•••K) are required, use bus extender module BMXXBE1000.

Related Products (upgrade path):

  • Lower slot count → BMEXBP0800 (8 slots)

  • Current model → BMEXBP1200 (12 slots)

  • Higher ruggedized version → BMEXBP1200H (severe environments, wider temperature range ‑25 °C to +70 °C)
